product acquisition and project implementation were provided. The Scope of
Services and the Terms of Reference documents for the detailed
implementation of GIS capabilities at the Section were also prepared.
Project:
GIS User-Need Assessment for SIPD
Client: ESCWA
Description: We conducted a GIS user-need assessment for the
SIPD division in ESCWA. A GIS workshop was first conducted to educated SIPD
employees about GIS technology. It was followed by interviews of key people
in the division. An assessment of existing data and systems was conducted.
Recommendations for the implementation of GIS technology and training of
staff were provided. Three prototype pilot applications were also prepared.
Project:
Development of DTM & Clutter Data of Kisch Island in Iran
Client: Libancell
Description: Landsat7 Satellite image was acquired covering the
Island of Kisch in Iran. Vector GIS data for roads and contours were made
available by the client. Satellite image was used for extracting clutter
data and updating road vector data. Contour lines and clutter data were
converted into 100m grids of DTM and clutter data in PLANET binary format.
Project:
Development of DTM and Clutter Data of Syria
Client: Libancell
Description: 1:500,000 International Topographic maps of Syria were
used to generate 500m grid step DTM. Contour lines and land cover data were
extracted from these topo maps and converted into PLANET binary format.
Major roads, railways and rivers were also digitized and georeferenced
according to the Syrian Projection System and converted into PLANET binary
format.
